Ultrasound
Retraining is more expensive than a standard physiotherapy
consultation, however, this is due to the use of specialist
ultrasound equipment.
Current fees for Ultrasound Retraining sessions are available on enquiry.
[private health insurance "extras" cover rebates do apply- Insurance (workcover) patients will need prior approval from the insurer.]
:: HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED? If your back pain is acute (recent)
and you do not have a past history of low back pain then you
may find that one or two sessions is enough to learn to contract
this very important stabilising muscle and so preventing you
from a lifetime of re-occurances.
If you have had pain for many years it may
take longer to teach you the contraction as the muscle has
not worked for so long. This could involve up to 8 - 10 sessions
over six months.
:: IS THIS THE WHOLE
CURE?
Low back pain is a complex condition especially if it has
been present for some time. Retraining the transversus abdominus
is an important milestone in the road to recovery. It is,
however, often not the sole solution and can be used in conjunction
with many other forms of physiotherapy and medical interventions
to reduce or abolish your pain.
